About Us
Malsain is a women’s outerwear label selling online at https://malsain.com. We stock jackets and coats, which is the layer that goes on last, over everything that has already been decided.
1. Why We Sort by Weight and Not by Season
A jacket usually stays on its hook not because it looks wrong, but because it is the wrong weight for the day. A coat bought for January is far too much for a damp 55-degree morning, and a thin shell gives up entirely at 45. Between those two numbers sits most of the year in most of the country, and it is the stretch of weather that a season label says the least about.
So we describe every piece by the conditions it is cut for rather than by the month it is supposed to belong to. A lined jacket that closes comfortably over a wool sweater is useful in October and useful again in March, and filing it under fall quietly shortens its year. Naming the weight also changes how many outer layers a person needs to own, because each one is bought for a band of temperature instead of a page of the calendar.
It changes how a listing gets written, too. Instead of a season and a mood, each piece states the range it is built for and the layer it is cut to close over, which is the pair of facts that actually settles whether it will get worn.
2. What Guides the Work
Three questions decide whether a piece goes into the line, and they are the same three questions every time.
- Weight before season. Every piece is chosen for a temperature range and described that way on the site, so the decision rests on the forecast rather than the month.
- Room for what goes underneath. Outerwear is measured over other clothes, so the cut has to allow a sweater through the shoulders and across the back without pulling at the front closure.
- Hardware that gets used all day. A zipper on an outer layer is opened and closed many times a day, so the pull, the tape, and the way the slider seats at the bottom stop matter as much as the fabric around them.
A piece that answers two of the three does not make it in, and the third is the one that usually fails. A jacket can look right and close cleanly while the zipper flexes between your fingers. Fabric gets noticed in a photograph, and hardware gets noticed in February, at a bus stop, with gloves on.
3. What We Stock, and What a Screen Cannot Tell You
The line is women’s outerwear in two groups. The lighter jackets cover mild and transitional weather, the kind of day that needs a layer in the morning and again after dark but nothing in between. The mid-weight coats carry the colder end, cut long enough to sit past the hip and roomy enough to close over a knit. Each group is chosen for its own band of weather, so the two together carry the year without doubling up.
Each listing carries flat measurements taken from the garment itself, along with the layer the piece is cut to accommodate, so a size decision can be made against something already hanging in the closet rather than against a body measurement alone.
That still leaves things a screen cannot do. It cannot hand you the weight of a fabric, tell you whether a sleeve will close over the cuff of a sweater you already own, or show you how a color behaves under an overcast sky rather than under studio lighting. Those are real limits and we are not going to talk around them.
What we can do is take the cost out of being wrong. Every order ships tracked, and when a piece turns out not to be right we email you a prepaid return label, so sending it back costs you nothing. Trying a coat on indoors over your own clothes is exactly how outerwear should be judged, and doing that keeps you well inside the return conditions set out in our Return & Refund Policy.
